Components of a Bicycle Generator

!±8± Components of a Bicycle Generator

If you want to get in shape and use that energy to power your everyday life, you will probably have some sort of interest in building a bike generator to workout on.

Materials You Will Need:
- A Bike
- A DC Permanent Magnet Generator
- A DC to AC Inverter
- 12V Deep Cycle Battery
- A Bicycle Training Stand
- A Charge Controller

Once you gather all your materials to create your very own bike generator you are ready to begin. A bike generator will let you generate electricity for things through your own energy that you expend from bicycling. You should be able to power anything that is about 100W of energy for around one and a half hours through one hour of pedaling. This pretty much means that you will be able to use twice as much energy as you use pedaling to power all of your appliance or whatever you want to use your energy towards. The amount of energy you can produce will obviously depend on your physical shape and endurance. The more in shape you are, the longer and faster you should be able to power your battery. Building a bike generator is expensive, but it can be fun and simple to put together. A Bike generator can also save you money in the long run, and it will definitely help you stay in shape!

1.) Take your bicycle training stand and put your bike on top of it to hold it in place and attach your generator to the training stand so that your generator can collect your energy.

2.) You will next want to attach your charge controller to your magnet generator so that you won't overcharge your battery.

3.) The third step would be to then attach the battery onto your charge controller so that it can collect and store the energy sent from your charge controller.

4.) The fourth and last step would to be simply attaching your DC to AC inverter onto your battery so that it can be used to plug things into.

Here is how it works. You get on your bike and ride it like a normal bike. The energy you use is put towards first charging the generator where the energy you expend riding the bike is collected. The generated energy in the generator is then sent to the charge controller. It basically does what it says, it controls the charge of energy that is sent to it. Then, the charge controller will send that energy to your battery, and that battery is just that. It is a battery. It will be able to hold a pretty good amount of energy inside of it, so it does not all have to be used while you are riding the bike. The battery is attached to your DC to AC inverter, so it can be used just like an outlet. You can plug your television or your laptop right into the inverter to charge it or use it.
